Timely article on CNN Money about the top 10 best jobs in America given Gret’s post yesterday.  Looks like Software Engineering is ranked #1. :)   

What was interesting to me was what determined the overall ranking.  When you look at the results initially it seems that other positions in the top 10 may have had better “grades”, higher salaries, and more potential job growth.  I had to dig a little to find that they actually gave double weight to salary and growth.  I am not as clear on why they had to double count.  That always sounds suspect to me (is it anything like double secret probation? :).

Anywho, Digg had some really interesting threads going on regarding the article.  Especially with the demarcation of “engineer” vs. “programmer”.

What did you think when you read the article?  Was their description of “software engineer” accurate?  Did you think the projection of job growth was accurate based on what you experience in the market?
