more on using search engines and applicants

Zoe

Here's an interesting perspective on recruiting from Scoble.  Especially with Gret's recent posts on combating digital dirt and privacy

Looks like recruiters aren't the only one's using search engines to find out more information on prospective employees.  I don't know if I necessarily agree with not hiring you if you don't have an online presence.  Maybe that's applicable more so in the tech industry or for a specific position where internet visibility is important.  I still think there are plenty of great engineers who, for whatever reason, may not be online.  And really, the debate could go on and on about the ethics of using search engines to find out information on candidates.  All I know is I did have fun playing with Gada.be.

Yeah Mark, I totally agree with you.  I also think that not all people are great writers, want to expose themselves that way, feel like they have something important to say, etc...

Do you think it's important for them to have some type of online presence though?
