fatal system error

Zoe

Well that's not good!  Actually it is really bad and what I was dealing with most of the day yesterday.  The end result?  My brand-new-month-old computer is totally hosed.  It's just a totally frustrating experience to have worked hard to earn money to buy a laptop for work that blows up.  Urgh!

But really, that is the extent of the bad news.  Since I happen to be an overly organized hypersensitive to data loss type of person, I've been backing up my files on a regular basis.  I also have a wonderful desktop at home that works just great, though doesn't afford me the opportunity to work outside in the beautiful sunshine while the boys romp around the back yard (woe is me, right?).  I also have a great service plan that's supposed to cover these types of problems.

So in the grand scheme of thing I may have to recreate a few docs here and there and reconfigure my computer, but at least I'm not totally hosed.  And I have to say that I feel very lucky that it's not one of the ones that can catch on fire...

Robert Herron on dl.tv had an interesting idea last week. He does his own burn-in test on any new electronics he buys - running them for 2-3 days straight. The theory is that will expose any faulty parts while the hardware is still under warranty.

I guess the recent laptop battery problems give a new meaning to "burn-in" ;)
