CareerBytes ScreenCast: It's about the Quality, Yo! Part 1

Gretchen

Today, I’m happy to introduce the Media Division of JobSyntax, Inc:  CareerBytes.  Sounds fancy, huh?  Well, it shouldn’t. :)  Zoë and I went from jobs where we interacted on a 1 : many level (think: JobsBlog, big industry conferences, all that backend stuff you never saw but actually mattered) to a more 1:1 level here with our jobseeker and employer services.  So to make sure we’re still reaching out to all of you beyond just the written word of our blog, we’re ready to roll out a few new and fun aspects of JobSyntax.  That’s what CareerBytes is.  It’s really our catch all word for the ways in which you can tap into our infinite wisdom. ;-)

So far, we’ve started writing a regular series of articles for The Code Project’s Recruiting and Job Hunting section.  Our first one was entitled CareerBytes: Writing a Technical Resume That Works, and there’s more on the way.

We’re also scheduled to speak at a .NET Developers Association meeting in November on 10 Mistakes to Avoid During a Technical Interview.  And in early October, we’ll host our first jobseeker chat.  More details on both of these events to follow soon.

But wait there’s more … in the next few months, you’ll see more “new media” integrated in our blog … think videos, podcasts, and screencasts.  I feel as though I’m growing geekier by the second!

And with that, today I’d like to kick off our first screencast:  Resumes:  It’s about the Quality, Yo!  Part 1.

As you may remember, I wrote a blog entry called Guy Kawasaki is Wrong! (say it isn’t so!)  in which I challenged Guy’s assertion that all resumes should only be one page in length.  In our two part screencast, we show you why we disagreed with Guy.  Starting with Guy’s sample resumes that he wrote himself, we show you, from a recruiter’s perspective, what worked and what didn’t go so well.

In our next screencast which we’ll post later this week, we actually rewrite Guy’s resume and explain why we made the changes we did.  Our revised sample will be available for download, too.  And remember, kiddies, we think Guy is awesome.  We just disagree with him on one not-so-minor point.

So without further ado, here’s ... Resumes:  It’s about the Quality, Yo!  Part 1Length: 00:10:42.  Be gentle with us; this is our first venture into the world of screencasting.  While we claim to be resume experts, we are not screencast experts … yet.

hey, thanks a lot for the great screencast. Its one thing to read long essays on how to write a good resume and its something to see a 'bad' resume transform it a winner. Very much looking forward for the next and the 'juicier' second part.

Thanks!  Glad you enjoyed it.  Yes, the 2nd part should be much juicier. :)
