CareerBytes ScreenCast: It's about the Quality, Yo! Part 2

Gretchen

On Tuesday, we posted the first part of our two part screencast series on resumes … Resumes: It's about the Quality, Yo! Part 1.   In that screencast, we reviewed Guy Kawasaki’s 1 and 3 page resume formats and discussed what we felt worked and didn’t work. Guy intended for his 1 page resume to be an example of a great resume, while his 3 page resume was supposed to be an extremely poor resume.  We felt both resumes had good and bad qualities, and in that screencast, we told you why.

Today, we invite you to join us as we give Guy’s resume the ultimate resume make-over.  We also have the free resume samples available for download: Guy’s Buzz Marketing Manager Resume (which is meant to be targeted for the Yahoo! job description discussed here) and Guy’s Executive Resume (which we felt was more realistic for his career).  You’ll notice, for both resumes, the actual content included in the documents is still sparse.  This is because we developed the documents solely off his original samples.  The intention is to show you the amount and type of information a recruiter would expect to see on a resume.  Of course, if Guy were a JobSyntax client, we’d work with him to fill in all those ugly blanks. ;-)

Note:  These samples are in PDF format for the purpose of sharing them with you, but as always, we recommend you submit a resume as a .doc or .txt format.  PDF documents and resume databases can sometimes be bitter friends.  Also, in these specific PDF samples, the hyperlinks are not clickable.

And now, Resumes: It's about the Quality, Yo! Part 2  Length: 00:10:39

10 minute screencast seemed too small for the resume makeover but turned out to be pretty good. The slides showing the resume tips were really useful.

Thanks.  Yeah, we wanted to make sure we kept the screencasts relatively short.  For a future one, we're thinking about reformatting a resume on the fly.  That one might be difficult to pull off logistically, but I think it would be fun.
