"snow day" foils work plans

Zoe

When I was younger, I loved that school would periodically be canceled in favor of building snowmen and half freezing to death making snow angels.  Growing up in upstate New York you could always count on some pretty hefty snowfall to sabotage a school day.  It was awesome.

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would be upset at a snow day.  Apparently I have either crossed over to adulthood or am completely delusional.  Today I found myself raging at the soft white stuff crunching under my shoes and railing against the crisp clean frigid air.

What had me cursing my beloved winter weather that once made me nostalgic for my childhood?  It ruined some perfectly good plans for work.  Yep, that’s right.  Work.

The unusual cold, snow and ice that has slammed the Seattle area in the past few days is making life a little difficult.  Not that there’s a lot of it mind you – depending on where you live you either got a dusting or a couple inches – but it’s enough to cripple a city not known for this type of weather.  It has also wreaked havoc on electrical and phone lines making it near impossible to get some of the things done that I was hoping to do and causing me to miss a much anticipated meeting.  I can’t believe I just said that…

Anyway, for a seasoned northeasterner this is a whole lot to do about nothing, but I am not taking any chances out there with the folks that aren’t used to this stuff.  It can be dangerous.  I also shouldn’t really be complaining too much as there are plenty of people who are much worse off at the moment – no power, no heat, stuck in traffic.  The worst part is we’re expecting more of it tonight.

I think I will just sit tight in my warm house and wait for it to blow over.  Here’s hoping for some warm 45 degree weather to get things back to normal!
