jobsyntax changes business model

Zoe

As Gretchen said so eloquently articulated earlier this week we are evolving and turning our business in a slightly different direction based on our interests and recent life events.   She also went on to explain our attraction to the more academic pursuits of commenting and evaluating this new world of social media as it relates to employment marketing and branding.

Well the good news is that we are ripe with business engagements at the moment.  The bad news is that we’ve had so much work on our plates it’s been a tad overwhelming.  Man, it seems weird to complain about business being good.  At the same time, we needed to take a step back and figure out what our main focus is and who we can help the most by doing what we love.

This leaves me wondering about our customers (past, present and potential) and what they might be thinking about our “services”.  What does this shift in focus mean and how will it affect them?

The Job Seeker
We first started our business with the job seeker in mind.  We had a number of people approaching us and asking for advice on resumes, interviews, negotiations etc and thought we could do a heck of a lot more good focusing our time and attention in this area.  That’s worked really well for us in the short term.  Yet, with our attention starting to focus in different areas we realize that we needed to spend more time making sure that these engagements were productive for both the job seeker and our business.  While we still offer these services we have streamlined our packages and included a pre-evaluation to ensure that you're getting the right services and we’re the right company to meet your needs.  Essentially as I wind down work commitments and head out on maternity leave, we're being a bit more selective in who we take on as clients so Gretchen can better manage our workload.

The Employer
We’ve taken a similar approach in how we’d like to interact with those seeking employer services.  However, there is a more apparent shift in this area from practical / tactical recruiting commitments to farther reaching strategic consulting.  What we have found most rewarding in our work is long term engagements that are focused on helping clients understand and use new and social media techniques to better target their intended audience.  Is an employment blog the right move?  Is there a way to highlight what your company has to offer using video or podcasts?  How are you managing your company's message through existing new media channels?  These are all questions we can help you answer through evaluating your goals and setting up new channels to reach target job seekers, pulling together strategic communication plans, or even managing your end-to-end new media presence.   It's just a matter of getting in touch.

What hasn’t changed about JobSyntax?  Our original intent, tagline and daily mantra.  We are passionate about breaking the code that exists between job seekers and employers.  We’re just changing how we do it :)

I am trying to merge my counseling background and 15 years of recruiting experience into a similar model. You were giving when I asked a question on ERE.net. I am trying to get an idea of your clientele  demographically. Passive vs active. Employed v looking. And finally I want to help smaller companies design a custom way to recruit people for their needs.
If its not too personal what should my $ per hour between company and individual be, EX if I can do 30 billable hours per week at $90 is that realistic. I am about to get a column in the local paper, which should get me started.

Thanks for being a role model

Thanks for your question Rich!  This is probably best left answered offline.  Will catch up with you in email.
