Can you post too much on your blog?

Zoe

As I am reading through my morning feeds, I am realizing that I am a bit overwhelmed by the number of posts on some of the sites, particularly blogs, that I subscribe to on a regular basis.  I recently decided to drop a few of these feeds because I felt like there wasn’t enough relevant or meaningful information included in the posts that were being published on a daily basis.

I’ve maintained subscriptions to some prolific bloggers because I feel that they often have content that I wouldn’t have caught otherwise.  I have also maintained subscriptions to sites publishing user generated content knowing that there will be a ton of content posted on any given day – I know what I am getting into here.

But I am still left wondering, what’s the point of having a blog that posts upwards of 20 posts a day?  Is it the idea of publish early, publish often?  Are they driven by their true interest in a particular area or subject or the ad revenue they derive?  Truly, most of what I am seeing published as blog posts are links to tools, applications, gadgets etc with little valuable commentary or insight.  I’ve become numb.

Which leads me to thinking about RSS feeds in general for the employment industry – specifically job descriptions.  A lot of people have been pushing this idea, but I wonder if job seekers will also become numb to the number of alerts they would receive a day.  Yeah, some would argue that at least they could read through the headlines quickly and only pick the most compelling descriptions based on “headline”, but how is this any different then sifting through the enormous amount of garbage on a job board with a keyword search.  I would imagine it’s still going to be a daunting task and argue that some of the great jobs will be missed altogether.

Bring on the matching technologies I say!  Let’s start truly connecting people instead of hiding behind the technology buzzwords.

Your thoughts?
