my avatar would like to interview your avatar

Fortune:  I got my job through Second Life

. . . the most radical dotcom 2.0 recruitment wave is happening in virtual reality thanks to Second Life. Instead of posting a resume on Monster.com that will hopefully net a flesh-and-blood job interview, your avatar can be interviewed and hired all within Second Life, often for jobs possible only in virtual reality.

Hmm.  I can see using Second Life to hire for Second Life consultants / developers / workers - but a new "wave"?  Not so sure.  I'd just like to see video conference interviews catch on first in the recruiting industry. :)

Agreed.  It more seems like marketing hype.  While I think the future of virtual worlds definitely have implications on recruiting (as much so as having chance meetings in person in real life), it's still a bit early.  Like you said, video conferencing would probably be a better first step.  Interesting info, thanks!

Thank you very much...it's really exciting stuff!  :)  And just think, I might not even be at Microsoft if it weren't for your fabulous recruiting skills.  ;)

Social networking via SL? Sure. Interviews on SL? Sure. Advertising yourself on SL as a real life employee? I don't think so.

I can see it now... You log in, and there's a message waiting from someone who'd like to interview with you for a position you're advertising. You look them up, IM them a couple of times, and she seems smart, sharp and like a contender... and then you teleport over and discover that she's entertaining the entire school football team in a dungeon?
